Why Restoring Birth as Ceremony th Can Promote Health Equity

Apr. 08, 2025

Carla Casteñada is an Indigenous woman, Motherland Activist, Board Member of NGO Niñas Sabias/Wise Girls, and certified Midwife and Instructor with years of involvement in
the Midwife Network of Mexico. Carla provides education, culture, and healthcare services based on the ancestral traditions of Mexico.

“The revitalization of birth as ceremony is a strategy to reclaim our humanity. Due to colonization of traditional Mexico, communities were separated from their culture, kinship,
ceremony, story, narrative, art, and music. As a result, their wellbeing, health and means of education where lost. Reproductive health care with a ritual basis, and the practice
of bringing birth home positively effects the early stages of a child's development.”

Fasting Lifestyle: Simple Shifts: Profound Results

Apr. 22, 2025

Fasting refers to the deliberate abstention from food and/or fluids for a period of time, for therapeutic purposes. Recent scientific research has explained how fasting positively affects our physiology, cells, aging, disease and overall health.
In 2016 Dr. Ohsumi changed the fasting landscape dramatically when he won a Nobel prize for his work on autophagy. Autophagy means “self-eating” and is the body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells. Fasting triggers this magical autophagy process and can provide significant health benefits. Because fasting works to repair and heal on a cellular level, research suggests that it can slow down the aging process and help conditions like obesity, diabetes, sleep apnea, some types of cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, IBS and chronic or autoimmune conditions.

Searching for Neill James: Ajijic ’ s Godmother

May 06, 2025
Ajijic was a relatively unknown place when American Neill James arrived here in 1943. Previously, an international travel writer, James transformed education, built a library and then a program to teach art to local children in 1954. She provided scholarships for students and helped them to market their art, too.
